HISTORY
OF LANGATON ALPACAS
Lower
Langaton Farm is situated in the beautiful North Devon
countryside and has been in the Waldron family for 100
years. It is currently farmed by Ian and his wife Rachel -
with assistance from their two young daughters.
Lower
Langaton supported a successful dairy herd until 1996 when
diversification into the Alpaca Industry took place - initially
with 2 pregnant alpacas. Since that date, the cattle have
been disposed of and the alpaca breeding herd now approaches 200
animals. Our aim is to selectively breed alpacas with good
conformation, combined with the fleece characteristics of
fineness and density, - our success in the show ring illustrates
that we are achieving our goal.
The
herd consists predominantly of Huacaya alpacas, with Suris
accounting for around 10-15%.
In
November 2006, Ian successfully completed the BAS Judge Training
Programme and is now a fully qualified British Alpaca Judge.
